If you want to up the ante this Halloween, one great way to do it is by giving out Halloween-themed sweets to trick-or-treaters. Your house will surely become the talk of the neighborhood by choosing to hand out these sweets but if your area isn’t big on the festivities, you can still celebrate on your own and enjoy these treats on your own.

Pumpkin Spice Treats

While pumpkin spice is more of a cozy fall flavor, it can still be a fun addition to your hand outs. There are tons of options as well for these sweets as lots of chocolate makers that offer their own takes to the seasonal treat. M&M’s, Kitkats, Hershey’s, Lindt, and Trader Joe’s are just some of the brands that offer such varieties.

Peanut Butter and Chocolate Bats

Instead of cups, Reese’s offer bat-shaped peanut butter sweets during the Halloween season. They’ll certainly look great with your decor and entertain kids thoroughly.

Glow in the Dark Sweets

Stuff that glow in the dark aren’t always scary but they’re still very entertaining and somehow fit the dark concept that comes with Halloween. This is why the glow in the dark sweets offered by Hershey’s are also great additions to a kid’s trick-or-treat haul.

Ghost Candies

Sometimes, it’s really just the packaging that changes when it comes to Halloween candies. It doesn’t hurt, though, as they still look perfect when handed out. If you want some ghosts in your collection, Tictac has a Halloween blend that you shouldn’t miss out on.

Sweet Skulls

With skulls being a popular symbol for death and Halloween, it wouldn’t be right if you don’t hand out skull candies to trick-or-treaters. With so many different options available, from candies to chocolates and jellies, you won’t run out of options for these sweets.

Creepy but Sweet Crawlies

Freak some people out with adding some creepy crawlies in their hauls. Hotlix has lollipops with some scorpion embedded in them. Other specialty candymakers also offer insect lollipops. But if you can’t shop around, there are always those gummy candies in worm and other insect shapes that your trick-or-treaters will enjoy.

Gross Gummies

Since Halloween is also all about pranks that will freak the life out of people, why not add some gross gummy candies in their loot bags? There are a wide range of amazing options available and it will be fun to see everyone’s reactions to them. These include gummy severed body parts like fingers, ears, feet, gouged eyeballs, and extracted inner organs like brains, hearts, and lungs among many others.

Blood Bag Sweets

Going for a vampiric theme this Halloween? Then this type of candy will be the perfect addition to your offerings. They’re often strawberry or raspberry flavored so they taste amazing and look like the real thing. There are other variations of this treat, too, as some are colored green to look like zombie blood.

Bone Treats

Not all bone-shaped items are for the puppies, some are perfect for the spookiest time of the year. They’re perfect for adding some gloom and doom to your trick-or-treat handouts and kids will certainly find them enjoyable to devour.

The most fun thing about these sweets is that they come in a wide variety of designs and makes. Some are gummy, other are hard candies. There are also very gross-looking ones while others are rather adorable.

All-Flavored Beans

Candy beans that come in a wide array of flavors invoke a different kind of fear because with snot, earwax, and vomit-flavored options, the candy experience can be fun to gross in no time. This makes these candies excellent additions to your handouts as kids will definitely have a blast enjoying them later on.

Homemade Halloween Treats

Last but not least, you can always serve up some fun homemade treats to your trick-or-treaters (as long as your homeowners’ association allows it). There’s no denying that Halloween is the best time to hit Pinterest for some wacky ideas, so don’t hesitate to do so. If you’re good at cooking and you have the time for it, why not give away some fun and maybe even healthy treats to the cuties that will knock on your door?

Which Candies to Avoid

If you’re not necessarily fond of spending cash on themed candies, you can avoid getting the most hated Halloween candies instead. Doing so will help keep you in the good graces of the neighborhood kids even if you’re kinda boring. At least they don’t hate you because of your awful taste in handouts, right?

So what are the sweets you should avoid giving out? Candy corn, Milk Duds, Tootsie Rolls, and Hot Tamales are just some of the blacklisted items by kids who love trick-or-treating all over the country because they taste gross, are hard to eat, and melts in the bag easily.

Save yourself the hate and the kids the hassle by opting for other candies aside from these. Afterwards, you might even find yourself worthy of a reward trip to the Cheesecake Factory.
