On November 1980, Bill and TJ Palmer opened T.J. Applebee’s Rx for Edibles & Elixirs, their first restaurant, in Decatur, Georgia. In 1983, W.R. Grace and Company purchased the company, which by then had two restaurants. In 1986, the restaurants’ names were changed to Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar, which has remained to this day. By 1988, the management changed hands from W.R. Grace and Company to Applebee’s International, Inc. In November 2007, IHOP Corporation and Applebee’s merged and became the world’s largest full-service restaurant company with over 3,250 locations.
