Cameron Mitchell, a well-known restaurateur from Columbus, Ohio, founded the Mitchell’s Fish Market restaurant chain. The chain itself is part of the larger group known as Cameron Mitchell Restaurants.
In 2008, the chain was sold to Ruth’s Chris Steak House for $92 million; the company was renamed Ruth’s Hospitality Group after the acquisition. In 2014, Landry’s acquired the chain from Ruth’s Hospitality Group.
What They’re Famous For
Mitchell’s Fish Market is known for being among the notable upscale yet casual restaurant chains that offers its guests fresh seafood dishes, as well as several choices in steaks, salads and appetizers. The restaurants usually feature a raw bar, a fish case with the day’s catch, and an open kitchen where the guests’ orders are prepared.
Why Eat Here
The fresh seafood including the catch of the day, which can be prepared according to your preferences, is the best reason for coming back again and again to the Mitchell’s Fish Market! You can choose your preferred seafood particularly fishes from the fish case, which occupies a place of honor in each restaurant. You can then request the chefs to prepare them in one of several ways, such as broiled, grilled, and cooked in Shang Hai style.
Such choice is a great opportunity to enjoy your preferred fish in more than one way so you can enjoy familiar textures combined with new flavors. The styles include grilled or broiled wherein the seafood is served with mashed redskin potatoes and sautéed vegetables in season; Island Jerk with the seafood grilled with Jamaican spices and served with black beans, rice, and mango-serrano salsa; Hoisin barbecue with the Hoisin glazed fish grilled over flames before served with rice and stir-fried vegetables; and Shang Hai seafood steamed with a scallions-and-fresh ginger mix and served with sticky rice, soy-ponza sauce, and sesame spinach.
You can also ask for the seafood to be served in Crispy Ginger style, which means a ginger-panko crust coupled with a citrus-ginger butter sauce, stir-fried vegetables, and sticky rice. Your other choice is the Cedar Plank style, which involves a balsamic glaze on the seafood and served with sautéed asparagus, grilled zucchini, sun-dried tomatoes, and goat cheese.
There’s also a gluten-free menu, a nod to the unique needs of people with gluten allergies. Even the salad dressings are gluten-free.
For more affordable Mitchell’s Fish Market prices, the best time to go is during the happy hour. In many restaurants, the happy hour stretches from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. albeit at the bar only. The drinks include premium wines, cocktails and beers at discounted prices, aside from the shareables that two or more persons can enjoy.
Of course, happy hour will not be complete without the food that can be paired with the drinks. While the food selections vary depending on the restaurant and season, the common offerings include shrimp pot-stickers with chili-soy glaze; potato chips loaded with blue cheese, bacon bits, and scallions; crispy fish sandwich with panko crusted cod; warm pretzel bread; oysters served with Bloody Mary cocktail sauce and celery; and Asian chicken lettuce wrap with kung pao chicken, sesame noodles, and kimchee slaw.
On days when you just want a quick yet delicious fix, you can choose from the chain’s Lunch Prix Fixe and Dinner Prix Fixe. Basically, these are meals-in-one consisting of your choice in starter and main course. The availability varies – the Lunch Prix Fixe is usually available Mondays to Sundays until 4 p.m. and the Dinner Prix Fixe can be ordered Sundays to Thursdays only; both exclude holidays and substitutions aren’t allowed.
The choices in a starter include Classic Caesar Salad, House Salad, Seafood Gumbo, Clam Chowder, and Lobster Bisque. The main courses to choose from include Shrimp Penne Alfredo with grape tomatoes, basil and parmesan garlic bread; Pretzel Crusted Tilapia with garlic green beans, whole-grain mustard sauce, and roasted redskin potatoes; Crispy Cod Sliders with beer-battered cod, tartar sauce, coleslaw, and French fries; and Blackened Chicken Pasta consisting of orecchiette pasta, mushrooms and sun-dried tomatoes with Cajun cream sauce.
Add a nominal amount to the lunch or dinner package of your choice and you will get a dessert. There’s banana bread pudding, crème brulee, and mini sharkfin pie, all of which are sweet without being cloyingly so.
Take a look at the price list above and you will see that, indeed, you have such a wide array of steak and seafood dishes, salads, appetizers, and desserts to choose from at any of the Mitchell’s Fish Market restaurants!
