History

In 1982, David Corriveau and James Corley opened the first Dave & Buster’s (D&B) in Dallas, Texas. Several corporate changes occurred including the purchase of majority ownership by Edison Brothers Stores (1989); spin-off from Edison Brothers before going public (1995); acquisition by D&B of 9 Jillian’s restaurants after the latter’s bankruptcy (2004); and acquisition of D&B by Wellspring Capital Management (2005). By June 2010, ownership of D&B passed into the hands of Oak Hill Capital Partnership before the chain became a publicly-traded corporation in 2014.  As of November 2014, there are 73 D&B locations in the United States and 1 in Canada.

What They’re Famous For

D&B locations are well-known and well-loved for three things. First, its full menu of typical American fare with the D&B treatment includes burgers, pastas, steaks, chicken, seafood, and desserts as well as drinks in the bar. Food is served from brunch hours to late at night while the menu itself is regularly updated to reflect seasonal and regional variations, guest favorites, and even current culinary trends. Second, the entertainment area features both traditional and modern games usually activated by the Power Card; coin-activated games are also available. Third, the company sponsors sports games, such as the UFC and WWE matches.
