The International House of Pancakes first opened in 1958 in Los Angeles. California and was founded by AL Lapin, Albert Kallis and Jerry Lapin with the help of William Kaye and Sherwood Rosenberg. As its name suggests IHOP is known primarily for its breakfast menu but by the 1980s it began expanding to offer lunch and dinner menu items as well, all of these additions maintaining the affordable IHOP prices that the breakfast menu popularized. By 2007 IHOP acquired Applebee’s and formally changed its corporate name to DineEquity. Ever since the business began it has expanded and offered franchising opportunities. There are now over 1,650 locations across the world.
