About Greene Turtle

This is also the case for the Greene Turtle locations, which are also considered as favorite hangouts in their neighborhoods. When you’re planning to spend time in the nearest Greene Turtle restaurant, you may want to arrive as early as possible, especially on game days.

History

The first Greene Turtle restaurant opened in 1976 in Ocean City, Maryland. Nowadays, the chain has several restaurants in its home state, Maryland, as well as in Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware, New York, New Jersey, and the District of Columbia.

What They’re Famous For

The Greene Turtle isn’t your regular sports bar and grill although it may initially look like it. Instead, every Greene Turtle location is a favorite community hangout for the young and old alike. The casual and fun atmosphere combined with the great food and drink makes it a great place to gather for game days and for regular days.

Why Eat Here

Keep in mind that the Greene Turtle is a sports bar and grill so the ambiance will be different from, say, a fast-food joint or a fast casual restaurant. The interiors have a contemporary casual décor with a combination of brightly-lighted and dimly-lighted areas, as well as the separate dining area with its regular table and chairs and the bar area with its high stools. The interiors, furthermore, are spacious so even on game days when the place is packed, there’s still sufficient room to move from the bar to the table or from the restrooms to the dining area.

Unlike many of its competitors, the Greene Turtle restaurants usually have a television set in every table. Each group of diners can then change the channel according to their preferred shows instead of being stuck to whatever is on. The noise level is still average for a sports bar and grill except on game days when everybody seems too excited for their own good about the games’ outcomes.

The email club and rewards program are great things to be a part of, too. You will be alerted about the promotions including the discounts on certain food and drinks, as well as get freebies when you become a regular patron.  You can ask the bartender or waiter about these matters and sign up on the spot; it’s an easy process, too, with little fuss involved.

The customer service at every Greene Turtle can only be described as awesome, especially for a sports bar and grill. The waiters and waitresses are attentive without being obtrusive, knowledgeable about the menu without being know-it-all people, and friendly without being nosy about your business. You can ask for recommendations of the food and drinks and get great results.

Of course, the food and drinks are great in tastes and textures, too, as well as great in value! The extensive menu can be a challenge to understand for a newcomer but the regulars already have their favorites, as we do. On your first visit, you may want to order the burger because these are definitely a big improvement over the horrible fast-food burgers.

But why stop with the burger even when it’s good? You can also order the whole shebang, if you will! The choices include the delicious crab dip made with real crabmeat; the tangy fried pickles; and the fall-off-the-bone tender hog hammers. There are also buffalo chicken nachos, the crab soup with its Manhattan clam; and the Caesar salad.

The crab dip, by the way, is among Greene Turtle’s signature items. You may not be into seafood dips but you simply must try it because it’s so creamy, flavorful and satisfying.

The dessert selection is limited but the available ones will be the perfect end to your meal. The funnel cake straws are the bestsellers because of their not-too-sweet quality, as well as the powdered sugar and two dipping sauces that come with it. The monkey bread dessert is also a great choice because it’s so delicious down to the last bite.

The beer selection is also great even for beer connoisseurs with gourmet tastes in the brew.  The bartenders are also knowledgeable about what’s on tap and on bottle. There’s a happy hour, too, while the best nights to come here are on Fridays and Sundays.

There’s no need to make reservations although you should make one when you want a catered event or when you’re with a large party. You can pay with cash or credit cards; Android Pay and Apple Pay aren’t accepted yet.  You can use military discount privileges, too.
