History

Wingstop Inc, was founded in Garland, Texas in 1994. Four years later, it started offering franchises and it has expanded since then. According to the company, there are more than 1,000 restaurants either already open or in development.

What They’re Famous For

Wingstop doesn’t exactly consider itself as a fast-food chain for many reasons. For one thing, it holds quality and freshness in food in high regard and, as such, the chicken wings are only cooked upon orders. These are then served piping hot from the kitchen, just the way wings should be.

For another thing, it doesn’t use heating lamps, microwaves, and holding bins in the restaurants. These appliances may be useful in keeping food looking and feeling fresh, but these are used for reheating, too.

Of course, Wingstop is famous for its chicken wings and, if the thousands of happy customers are to be the judge, it’s one of the best chains to enjoy the dish.

Why Eat Here

Wingstop brands itself as more of a fast casual restaurant chain, a cross between a full-service restaurant with its emphasis on high-quality food and a fast-food restaurant with fast services, especially in terms of food delivery. Think of it as getting the best of both worlds – reasonable prices, great food and drinks, and quick service as well as a relaxed atmosphere that allows for quality time with family and friends.

The chicken wings are the bestselling item on the menu and we aren’t surprised as these are the legit ones with their peppery flavor and tart vinegary taste. These are available in several heat levels, too, from the mild to the murderous – well, at least, your tongue may well experience temporary numbness after being exposed to the hottest sauce available.  These are also available in two ways: first, on the bone and second, boneless.

We suggest the hickory smoked BBQ boneless wings because it’s a familiar dish with its intoxicating smoky flavors. The Louisiana Rub Wings have a crispy golden skin that complements the interesting blend of Cajun spices and seasonings. The sauces, by the way, range from the mild mango habanero to the hell-hot Atomic; you may want to start with the milder sauces and then progress to the hotter sauces when your mouth has developed a higher resistance.

Yet another reason Wingstop’s chicken wings are among the best is that these aren’t oily, greasy and heavy despite being deep-fried. The reason for it is that the raw meat isn’t dipped in batter before frying and, thus, there’s no extra flour layer that can absorb the oil. Say goodbye to the sickeningly oily sensation left in your mouth after eating chicken wings!

Wingstop also has great sides! The jalapeno cheese fries has the perfect balance between sweet and savory, tangy and zesty, and spicy. The cheese sauce was sweet yet savory while the jalapenos were tangy, zesty and spicy in turns. The fries were also server piping hot and crispy, and it was such a delight to be dipping them into the cheese sauce.

The potato salad is a great accompaniment to the chicken wings, particularly when you’re eating the Atomic sauce. The cooler flavors of the potato salad acts as a fire extinguisher to the fiery heat of the sauce, not to mention that it’s a great way to refresh your taste buds.  These are vegetables, too, so you feel like your guilt at eating one too many chicken wings can be lighter.

The mushroom fritters are round, juicy and succulent so much so that even people who aren’t into mushrooms may well stuff their mouth with them. These don’t even have the overwhelming mushroom smell and their crispy texture has a light saltiness to it that makes you want to take one more bite.

Other sides include coleslaw, baked beans, yeast rolls, and vegetable sticks. There are also comb packs, which are good for sharing or as a complete meal for an individual, as well as family packs for larger groups. The combo packs include the Rice Box Combo and the Wing Burger Combo.

The Wingstop restaurants have a welcoming atmosphere, thanks to its open plan layout, bright lighting, and modern décor. The staff members from the managers and cashiers to the servers are friendly, helpful and efficient, many of whom seem to always have a smile for the customers.  The customer service here isn’t five star but it’s getting there, at least for a fast casual restaurant chain.
