The Saltgrass Steak House, a chain of restaurants with over 50 locations across the country, is among the more popular here. The wholly-owned subsidiary of Landry’s, Inc. has its current headquarters in Houston, Texas.

History

In March 1991, the first Saltgrass location opened in Houston, Texas. The location was partly chosen because of its strategic location along the historic trail leading to the Texas Gulf Coast’s salt grasses, a place where cattle herders would pass by on their way to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

In September 2002, Landry’s President and CEO, Tilman Fertitta, announced his company’s acquisition of the Saltgrass chain of steakhouses.

Every steak that comes out of the Saltgrass kitchen comes from Certified Angus Beef – truly, the world’s finest beef because of its outstanding combination of fine marbling, juicy leanness, and scrumptious flavors. Even the best USDA Choice cuts are no match for the excellent quality of Certified Angus Beef, a claim that the chain delivers on with every order.

The beef is also seasoned with the chain’s own steak spice invention, which brings out the innate flavors of the meat, and topped with fresh garlic-infused butter before serving. The result: Steaks that appeal to the senses, from the sight of a perfectly-broiled steak with pinkish interior to the taste of juicy, succulent and tender steak filled with complex flavors in every bite. Think of the Saltgrass steak as the complete steakhouse dining experience and you will understand why industry publications and consumers alike think of it as perfect in every way.

Of course, every steak lover has specific ideas about his favorite cut and level of doneness (i.e., rare or medium rare). The Saltgrass restaurants pride themselves on addressing their customers’ demanding needs for steaks, whether it’s for porterhouse, rib-eye, or filet mignon, among other cuts. There are favorites among the prime cuts of beef chargrilled to perfection, such as the Silver Star Porterhouse, the Pat’s Rib-eye, and the Maudeen’s Center Cut Filet.

Every steak and chop served also comes with a side of your choice, as well as your choice of a Caesar salad, a dinner salad, or a bowl of soup. You don’t need any other accoutrements to your meal, if you’re watching your diet, since the steak, side and salad combo is already a complete meal in itself. You may also upgrade to a kale or spinach salad for an affordable fee.

Your steak can be as diet-friendly as the 8-ounce Wagon Boss Top Sirloin or as appetite-friendly as the 17-ounce Texas T-bone. You can tell your waiter – the chain has waiter service – about your preferred level of doneness. You must, however, keep in mind that beef cooked beyond medium rare will likely lose its succulent quality.
