America with its hodgepodge of ethnic communities love pizza – and that’s a fact of life! But because pizza is available in many forms and styles, as well as available in the frozen section of the supermarket for reheating at home, Americans have settled for less. This is such a shame considering the culinary heights that the simple combination of crust, meat and vegetables, and cheese and sauce can reach.
Fortunately, we have Russo’s Pizza that brings back the passionate love we have for the Italian food! When you eat in one of its restaurants, you have the assurance that the best New York-style pizza will be yours to enjoy with your family and friends. But that’s not all either as the chain of pizzerias also offer several choices in pizzas, pastas and calzones, among others.

In 1992, Anthony Russo opened his first Russo’s Pizza in Houston, Texas. But before it, he was also the owner of Anthony’s Pizzeria in Clear Lake, Texas. His goal then and now: To bring the best authentic New York-style pizza to the marketplace. Houston was a sensible choice for opening a New York-style pizzeria since there was a high concentration of former New Yorkers in the city.
But Russo’s Pizza has deeper roots stretching back to the 1970s. Anthony Russo grew up learning the intricacies of preparing New York-style pizza and fine Italian cooking, mostly from his family’s restaurant, Russo’s Italian Restaurant. He has also adopted his father’s motto, “If you can’t make it fresh, don’t serve it.”
The first restaurant quickly became widely recognized for the fresh, delicious and flavorful food among foodies and food critics alike. Over the years, the chain has garnered several awards, such as the Top 100 Pizza Companies (2012) by Pizza Marketplace Magazine, the Top 100 Pizza Companies (2012) by Pizza Today, and the Top 120 Restaurants in United States (2009) by Entrepreneur Magazine.
Today, the chain consists of more than 30 restaurants in Texas, Florida, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Hawaii, and Tennessee. There are also Russo’s Pizzeria locations in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates. All of the restaurants offer both dine-in and takeout services while several also provide catering and delivery options.
What They’re Famous For
New York-style pizza is arguably among the most popular types of pizza in the United States. This isn’t surprising as the wide, thin and foldable crust makes it easy to eat, even on the go, while the traditional toppings of tomato sauce, cheese, meats and vegetables complement the crust. The chain of Russo’s Pizza restaurants continue to build their reputation on the excellent quality of their New York-style pizza.
Plus, Russo’s Pizza is also famous because of their extra-large party pizzas that can truly satisfy the hunger of a group of people. Just how big are the party pizzas? You can take your measuring tape and measure it – 2 feet and 4 inches in diameter!
Big or small, the Russo’s Pizza pizzas are among the best pizzas you will ever enjoy in your life. The chain has its loyal fans as proof, as well as its numerous awards from the food-centric media and the positive reviews from the food critics to show for it. In 2008, for example, Houston Press dubbed it as the Best Pizza Houston while the Every Day with Rachael Ray Magazine considered it as among the best pizzas in the United States in 2010. From then until today, the high regard for which the pizzas made by Anthony Russo’s chain hasn’t changed.
Why Eat Here
Freshly made from scratch, organic ingredients including the meats, vegetables and cheese, and made in a coal-fired oven – all of these are the hallmarks of the pizzas from Russo’s Pizza. The result: Warm, cheesy and tasty pizzas that even the pizza purists love! Even people who have gluten allergies flock to the restaurants, thanks to their gluten-free dough.
Diners have two options when ordering their pizzas. First, you can choose from a set list of the restaurant’s specialty pies that are considered the must-haves whenever you’re dining in a Russo’s Pizza location. Second, you can make your own personalized pizzas from the available ingredients.
For the second option, for example, you can make two Neapolitan pies with up to three toppings and a choice of tomato sauce or homemade garlic and oil dressing. Your pizza can have Portobello mushrooms, soppressata, and red onions with garlic and oil dressing or you may have a simple Mona Lisa with pizza sauce, oregano, fresh basil, sliced buffalo mozzarella, and Sicilian extra virgin olive oil.
Aside from the award-winning pizzas, Russo’s Pizza also has a wide selection of delicious entrées, appetizers, calzones, sandwiches and desserts, as well as beverages including beer and wine. The choices include spinach artichoke dips, lobster ravioli, fettuccine Alfredo, veal gorgonzola, and red velvet cake, to name a few.
By now, you may think that the Russo’s Pizza prices are on the expensive side – quality food often means more quantity in dollars, after all. But this isn’t the case as the portions are always generous so the prices are well worth every dollar.
