About Iceberg

The Iceberg restaurants are also known for their food menu, the perfect complement to the refreshing drinks from the soft drinks to the thick milkshakes. Every diner comes out of the restaurants so happy with their satisfying snacks and meals.

History

On April 12, 1960, Lamar Sorensen opened the first Iceberg Drive Inn, which was based on a concept of a restaurant serving thick milkshakes, burgers and fries by Hap Vitale.  This was located in Salt Lake City, Utah and is credited as the first drive-thru in the city. The “Inn” part of the name was the idea of Sorenson who believed that the double “n” appeared friendlier than a single “n”.

Iceberg quickly gained a loyal following, especially children and families. The restaurant’s innovative flavors to the thick milkshakes were its strongest draw.  Today, there are nearly 20 locations in Utah, California and Arizona with more locations opening, thanks to the strong franchising program in place.

What It’s Famous For

Sorensen initially served regular shakes that can be enjoyed with a straw. But due to the demand of regular customers for thicker milkshakes with less milk, he introduced thick milkshakes – and these quickly became the bestselling item on the menu. The Famous Thick Shakes are now the core of the chain’s menu – truly, the must-have whenever you visit an Iceberg location.

Why Eat Here

Be sure to leave your weight loss plans, even if temporarily, at the door when you enter an Iceberg restaurant! The Famous Thick Shakes are well worth the calories because of their fresh and refreshing taste, as well as their real fruit flavors. Every Iceberg visit should have at least one glass for each person – and you won’t regret it.

The thick milkshakes are divided into three categories, namely, Iceberg Originals, Specialty Shakes, and Specialty Nut Shakes. Every single glass, nonetheless, is characterized by rich milkshakes that you cannot sip through a regular straw.  Many customers even just drink straight from the glass and get the silly milk-on-your-lip effect.

The Iceberg Originals milkshakes are the traditional fruity ones like banana, black raspberry, blueberry, and boysenberry; classic ones like butterscotch, caramel, and chocolate; and childhood favorites like chocolate chip, hot fudge, and marshmallow crème. The selection seems to expand with each passing year aside from the seasonal choices so your palate doesn’t become bored.

The Specialty Shakes appeal to people with the proverbial sweet tooth yet the flavors aren’t too cloying. The flavors include Brownie, Cookie Dough, Reese’s, Butterfinger, Heath, and Snickers, all of which are obviously inspired by the popular chocolate confections.  These are also made with the real candy so you always get, for example, the addictive flavors of Reese’s with the thick texture of Iceberg’s famous milkshakes.

The Specialty Nut Shakes are for the nut lovers in the group. The temptation of indulging in more than a glass is always present because the thick milkshakes combine the flavors of almond and fudge (Almond Fudge), or caramelized pecans (Caramel Pecan), and chocolate with nuts and marshmallow (Rocky Road).  These are the best shakes you will ever have and we guarantee it.

There are also frozen treats on the menu. These include banana splits, sundaes, and cones in flavors like chocolate, vanilla, and twist.

If you still have room for solid food, then we recommend ordering the combo meals. Each combo consists of either a 20-ounce drink or a min-shake, an order of French fries, and your choice in burger or sandwich. You can then get either a heavy meal or a light snack depending on the size of your appetite.

The burgers and sandwiches include Double Burger, Rodeo Burger, Grilled Footlong, Chicken Sandwich, Pastrami Burger, Grilled Cheese, and Chicken Cordon Bleu. There are also fish dinner and chicken dinner choices, as well as fries and onion rings. We have to say that the fries and onion rings are so delicious with just the right balance between crispiness and softness.

The Iceberg restaurants have a fast-food dining area and a drive-thru so you can choose which ones fit your schedule for the day.  If you’re craving for an on-the-go dessert, then getting your fix at an Iceberg drive-thru is justifiable, especially when you’re one for thick milkshakes with nuts on top.

When you enter an Iceberg restaurant, you will see that it’s a family-friendly place where children of all ages enjoy their food and drinks. The casual attire fits in well with the relaxed vibe while the average noise level still makes it possible to carry light-hearted conversations with others.
