Man’s relationship with fire has its roots in prehistoric times and we have been in love with its uses ever since. Nowadays, restaurants that offer grilled over open fire meats, fish and seafood are among the most popular! There’s just something so soul-satisfying about eating food that has been directly exposed to fire, aside from the smoke-enhanced flavors.
Such an experience is true when you and your group dine at a Firebirds restaurant. You will agree that, indeed, the fire-centric atmosphere has its appeal while its fire-exposed food tastes so good.

Dennis Thompson, a restaurateur, opened the first Firebirds Wood Fired Grill in Charlotte, North Carolina in December 2000. His vision: To bring a taste of Colorado, a place he visited often, to the Carolinas and, in the process, introduce the beauty of traditional grilled foods.
What They’re Known For
The chain of Firebirds Wood Fired Grill restaurants is known for its contemporary and chic – or in its own words, contemporary polished – approach to the traditional grill. The chefs are known for their energetic and enticing twists on grilled meats, fish and seafood, especially in the use of bold flavors, for the chain’s classic American menu.
The authentic wood-fired food, from the steaks to the seafood and fish, are complemented by the select wines and specialty cocktails. The restaurants are, indeed, the best places to go to when you’re looking for the best in grilled food at reasonable prices.
Why Eat Here
Every Firebirds restaurant has its unique décor but there’s an underlying principle of casual and contemporary chic that make each one truly part of the Firebirds brand. The open layout encourages diners to interact with each other, perhaps even say hello to their family and friends who are also dining out. The kitchen, however, is hidden from view so the dining areas are relatively quiet – no waiters and chefs shouting back and forth about the food orders, for example.
The stylish décor is sophisticated for adults yet friendly for kids and teenagers. The diners are then a lively mix of young and old, students and professionals, and couples and groups so there will likely be a dynamic vibe. The wood-fired themes complement the food and drinks of offer so there’s a sense of high anticipation among the diners.
The dining areas are aplenty, too. In many locations, there are outdoor patios for al fresco dining in good weather. Many diners even have their parties, corporate events, and family gatherings in their favorite Firebirds restaurant because everything else from the venue and waiter service to the food and drinks can be handled well.
The signature items here may be on the more expensive side but when you get a taste of them, you will agree that these are worth the money. These include the aged steaks grilled to perfection and the fresh seafood filleted and grilled in the kitchen to ensure freshness. Both the steaks and seafood are seared in-house over oak, hickory and/or pecan wood, a process that adds the distinctive smoke-flavored quality to the dishes.
Everything you and your group will want to be filled and satisfied can be found at a Firebirds restaurant. The menu includes a wide range of starters, appetizers and entrées, as well as drinks of the non-alcoholic and alcoholic kind.
The sesame-encrusted salmon came in a generous portion so sharing bites is possible, and it’s for the best because it’s such a flavorful dish that you can’t help but share in its joy. The sirloin steak with baked potato is so yummy that you may not want to share it, however, not to mention that it’s such a classic dish.
Other must-have dishes include the lobster spinach queso with lobster, baby spinach and pepper jack cheese served with tortilla chips; the smoked chicken wings served with buffalo hot sauce; the coconut shrimp consisting of lightly battered and fried shrimp served with chutney and tortilla slaw; and the crab cakes with jumbo lump crabmeat.
Be sure to check out the craft beers, artisan cocktails, and after-dinner drinks as well as the bourbon and the private label wine. Your food will be better when paired with these drinks.
Your costs will be lesser for these drinks, too, when you come for the Happy Hour, usually from 4PM to 7PM, Monday to Friday, and from 11AM to 5PM on Saturday and Sunday. The Happy Hour happens either at the patio or at the Firebar, both of which are great places to drink – moderately – and be merry.
The service all Firebirds restaurants is excellent, too, especially when the casual dress code and ambiance are considered. The waiters and waitresses are trained well to look out for the satisfaction of the diners in terms of their overall dining experience.
Most of the Firebirds restaurants also accept reservations although walk-in diners are just as welcome. These are also kid-friendly places even with the full bar.
