About Eat ‘n Park

Smile and the world smiles with you! The Eat ‘n Park restaurant chain considers itself a “place for smiles” and diners will likely enter and exit the restaurants with happy smiles!

This isn’t surprising as the Eat n Park prices are affordable even when you’re on a tight budget. The food and drinks selection, especially the Smiley Cookies, are great on the palate and on the tummy, too.

History

In the late 1940s, Bill Peters and Larry Hatch went on a trip to Cincinnati where they were impressed by the brisk business of the Frisch’s Big Boy Drive In. The duo contacted Bob Wian, the founder of Frisch’s, and eventually reached a 25-year contract to operate the restaurants in Pittsburgh under the brand Eat ‘n Park.

The first 13-stall drive-in Eat ‘n Park restaurant opened in Pittsburgh in its South Hills neighborhood on June 5, 1949. When the Eat ‘n Park company left Big Boy, it entered the West Virginia and Ohio markets.  As of 2017, there were 69 Eat ‘n Park restaurants in Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia with the corporate headquarters located in Homestead, Pennsylvania.

What They’re Famous For

The Eat ‘n Park chain was awarded by the American Culinary Federation its Achievement of Excellence award – and that definitely says something about the excellent quality of the dishes and desserts in the chain! Of course, the Smiley Cookies are what made the chain famous so these treats are considered as must-buys, whether you’re ordering for dine-in or take-out.

Why Eat Here

The Eat ‘n Park restaurants are beloved by their loyal patrons partly because of the warm and friendly service from the staff members, so the smiles from diners abound. The wait staff – yes, there are waiters ready to take your orders and deliver your food to the table – are knowledgeable about the menu so their recommendations are appreciated. The delivery of the food to the tables usually takes 10-15 minutes depending on the number of orders and diners in the restaurant but it’s relatively fast.

There are no television sets and Wi-Fi connection in the restaurants but it’s a blessing. Diners can talk while waiting for their orders and eating their meals. The casual ambiance encourages groups of friends and families, even those with kids, to come and enjoy the food and drinks without worrying about fine dining etiquette.

And then there’s the wide selection of appetizers, breakfast combos, salads, sandwiches, and desserts as well as the choices in beverages. The dishes and desserts at Eat ‘n Park restaurants are widely considered as the best in terms of quality so the Achievement of Excellence award is, indeed, warranted. The ingredients are apparently of the highest quality possible – fresh fruits and vegetables, organic eggs and meat products, and premium seafood – judging by the delicious flavors, delightful textures and beautiful appearance of the prepared food.

The appetizers can be lights meals or full snacks depending on your appetite. These include spicy jalapeno cheddar poppers, fried ravioli, pretzel sticks, chicken quesadilla, popcorn shrimp, and mac ‘n cheese bites. You can even build your own appetizer by adding three of any of the appetizers plus fresh chips, which will then be served with either a homemade ranch or marinara sauce.

The Eat ‘n Park restaurants are popular among the breakfast crowd, too, especially among people who want their breakfast anytime they want, whether it’s for brunch or lunch. The breakfast combos will definitely put a smile on your face with their generous portions of eggs, bacons, and breakfast potatoes, among other classic food items. The meat selection also means that your breakfasts at your Eat ‘n Park restaurant will not be boring – just choose the meat that suits your palate on a given day with your choices including ground sirloin, sausage patties, bacon, turkey sausage, and sausage.

Other classic breakfast items on the plate include fresh-cut fruits, buttermilk pancakes, Smiley Belgian waffles, French toast, toasted English muffins, and Grilled Stickies.  Banana Foster syrup is also provided.

Since the classic American breakfast has eggs, the Eat ‘n Park restaurants also offer several egg-based breakfasts. The All-American Scrambler is a bestseller because of the delicious combo of toasted bagel, cheese, fluffy scrambled eggs, and a choice of meats, plus fresh fruit and breakfast potatoes.

And don’t forget to order the Smiley Cookies, the bestselling item that made the chain famous. These are sugar cookies that evoke memories of happy childhood years so the smiles come easily.  Be sure to order the other dessert items, too, such as the chocolate chip pancakes, which are topped with chocolate chips and whipped cream, and the slices of banana crème pie, blackberry pie, and coconut crème pie.

When you come into an Eat ‘n Park restaurant, you will like the family-friendly atmosphere almost immediately. The groups of families and friends are obviously enjoying their meals, a good sign of good things to come!
