In 1941, Travis Dickey opened his first restaurant in Dallas, Texas as a family-owned and operated venture. His Dickey’s Barbecue Pit featured slow-smoke barbecue, pit hams, beef brisket, potato chips, and barbecue beans as well as bottled sodas, milk, and beer. In 1967, the Dickey brothers Roland and T.D. became the new managers and continued their father’s vision of hickory-smoked signature meats, as well as opened new locations throughout the Dallas Fort Worth region and, eventually, in Texas. Today, the chain has more than 520 locations in 43 states with future plans for expansion. In fact, it has been named as the country’s fastest-growing restaurant chain by Technomic (2012), among the Best Franchise Deals by QSR Magazine (2012), and Top 100 Movers and Shakers: Restaurants by Fast Casual (2014), among other accolades.
What They’re Famous For
Dickey’s prices are not the only attraction of the barbecue-centered chain. The brand is also famous for its slow-smoked meat, which have unique flavors, textures, and tenderness than other smoked meats from competitors. Each restaurant may also be customized according to its specific location, according to the franchise agreement, but all of them feature the slow-smoked barbecued meat as well as the meat lover’s menu. Every table also gets complimentary ice cream and buttery rolls while kids get free meals on Sundays.
