About Cru Food & Wine Bar

At CRÚ Food & Wine Bar, diners will have an easy time making great food-and-wine pairings for many reasons. You and your group, for one thing, can rely on the assistance of the staff in making these choices. You will also find it easy to choose from the impressive menu, for another thing, with the knowledge that everything’s delicious to the last bite.

History

CRÚ Food & Wine Bar is a chain of upscale restaurants with several locations in Alpharetta and Atlanta in Georgia; Austin, Dallas, Houston, and Fort Worth in Texas; Denver, Colorado; and Lexington, Kentucky.

What They’re Famous For

CRÚ Food & Wine Bar is known for its wide range of world-class wines and Napa-style dishes. The chain of upscale restaurants, furthermore, wants to demystify wine by offering it by the glass so everybody can afford and enjoy expensive wines. There are about 30 wines offered by the glass and another 300 wines by the bottle with every price point covered.

Why Eat Here

Every CRÚ restaurant has a lively atmosphere, especially during the weekends, and has an interesting mix of people from 21+ years old to 60+ years old who apparently come here for the great food and wine. The romantic and sophisticated décor makes every CRÚ restaurant a great place for date night, too, whether it’s a first date or a 50th anniversary date. Keep in mind that it’s an upscale restaurant so a business casual or smart casual dress code is observed and good table manners are appreciated.

But there’s also a sense of being laidback since CRÚ doesn’t want to project a snotty and snobbish image. Come in, choose your table, and relax while letting the staff take care of your food and drinks and everything else that you may need as a valued guest.  The waiters – yes, there’s waiter service so there’s no need to line up at a counter – appear well-trained in the art of service and, thus, can handle customer demands and a large crowd.

The Napa-style dishes and desserts on the menu are all mouthwatering so you can’t go wrong with your choices. We suggest the Artisan Cheese Flights, a platter of cheese, rustic bread, pears, grapes, and apples; the lobsters and shrimp potstickers served with roasted Fresno chilies and spicy lemon sauce; and the fig and gorgonzola bruschetta with mission figs, gorgonzola, and balsamic dressing.

Be sure to try the Fritto Misto (calamari, rock shrimp, and Brussels sprouts with spicy Fresno chili sauce), the Cru House Salad (arugula, pears, watercress, cheese, herb goat, pistachio and sherry vinaigrette), and the Golden Beet Salad (radicchio, goat cheese, and shaved Brussels sprouts with a mustard and thyme vinaigrette). The Goat Cheese Beignet may look simple but it’s heavenly with its combination of goat cheese, cracked pepper and honey while the Ahi Tartare with avocado, cilantro, cucumber, citrus olive tapenade, and vine-ripened tomato is so delicious you can’t get enough of it.

The Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup with taleggio cheese Panini is light yet satisfying.  The Charcuterie Board is a meat lover’s delight with its assortment of salami, prosciutto, foie gras mousse, manchego cheese, antipasti, and rustic bread. The Cheese Fondue consists of fontina, truffle tartufo, and flatbread with apples, pears, haricot verts, and Brussels sprouts; the dish can be served with your choice of wine since cheese and wine go well together.

CRU also has several pizzas on its menu. The Stone Fired Pizza has D’anjou pear, basil, caramelized onions, honey, and parmesan cheese while the classic Margherita may have basic ingredients but it’s definitely sophisticated with its combo of tomato sauce, fior di latte, and torn basil.

Don’t miss out on the fun that comes with Charcuterie (pancetta, prosciutto and salami with Italian sausage), Fig & Prosciutto (arugula, fig jam, point reyes blue, and fontina), and Salsiccia Flatbread (mozzarella, Italian sausage, and roasted pepper).

If you have a large appetite or you want to share a plate, you should consider the Big Plates on the menu. The Filet Mignon plate consists of a 6-ounce filet of beef with point reyes blue cheese, truffle potato gratin, haricot vert, and rosemary chianti sauce. The Cast Iron Seared Sea Scallops are served with spinach parmesan risotto and golden tomato marinara while the Barolo Braised Short Rib is made even more delicious with a serving of wild mushroom jus and sage butternut squash polenta.

For your cheese and wine pairing adventures, CRU has several cheeses to choose from. These include Manchego, a firm and dry cheese with a zesty exuberance; Bijou, a goat cheese with a sharp and complex flavor; and Roomano Gouda, a type of cow cheese from the Netherlands with a sweet and salty butterscotch flavor.
