About Cotton Patch

Social responsibility is an admirable advocacy in the food industry. Basically, restaurants are encouraged to donate to their chosen charities, become involved in community affairs, and support worthy causes, as well as ensure the welfare of their employees.

This is where the Cotton Patch chain of restaurants excel – the corporate culture is actually one of giving. According to Kathy Nelson, its CEO, Cotton Patch isn’t just about the delicious food – the chain also wants to help people enjoy better lives.

History

In 1989, Larry Marshall and Mike Patranella opened the first Cotton Patch Café in Nacogdoches, Texas. The duo wanted to create a community-centric restaurant that offered made-from-scratch food and served it via people hired from the community. The result: A chain of home-style restaurants that foster pride and peace in the community, especially in supporting charities and causes that impact the people and place.

Today, there are more than 50 locations in Texas, New Mexico, Arkansas, and Oklahoma – and the numbers will grow due to the company’s expansion plans. In 2015, Altamont Capital Partners acquired the chain.

What They’re Famous For

The Cotton Patch chain is known for its Southern-style dishes, especially the chicken fried steaks, fried green tomatoes, and fried pickles. Each restaurant has a casual dining atmosphere suitable for individuals, couples and groups of families and friends, even for kids coming along with their relatives.

Why Eat Here

If you’re looking for Southern-style classic and comfort foods, then the Cotton Patch restaurants are the best places to visit. You will find plenty of dishes and desserts that stay true to the culinary traditions of Southern dishes and desserts although many of them also have a local feel. The Cotton Patch prices are also easy on the pocket so splurging on your food orders is possible.

Start your meals with the appetizers, which come in generous portions suitable for two or more persons depending on the appetite. Your choices include the chicken quesadillas consisting of grilled chicken, cheese blend, and corn salsa sandwiched in a flour tortilla; bacon cheese fries composed of crispy golden-brown fries with a topping of cheese blend and chopped bacon; jumbo crispy mushrooms with honey mustard sauce; and chips and salsa.

Soups are great snacks, too, especially when you’re rushing through the day. The potato cheese soup has a flavorful quality to it, thanks to the chunky potatoes, chopped bacon, and creamy cheese sauce. The Chicken and Dumplings soup features hand-rolled savory dumplings mixed with tender chicken, which can be paired with any of the appetizers.

The salads include sweet and savory choices. You can satisfy your sweet tooth yet avoid the empty calories with the strawberry pecan salad, a mix of grilled chicken, candied pecans, fresh strawberries, spring mix, and blue cheese crumbles with a dressing of raspberry walnut vinaigrette.  Your cravings for a grilled Caesar salad can satisfied here, too, especially when you savor the perfect combo of the grilled chicken and grilled lemon salmon.

You can choose from premium salads, such as the garden patch salad, the Cobb salad, and the Colonel salad, as well as the wedge salads like the Blue Cheese Wedge and the BLT Wedge. We must say that the Blue Cheese Wedge is a yummy choice with its crisp iceberg lettuce, blue cheese crumbles, tomatoes, chopped bacon, and blue cheese dressing – call it blue cheese overdrive, if you will.

The sandwiches and steakhouse burgers are already meals unto themselves because each order already comes with French fries as sides. You may also add sweet potato fries, a cup of soup, or a side salad for an additional charge. Your best choices in sandwiches are the Chicken BLT (grilled chicken breast, crispy bacon strips, tomatoes and lettuce) and the Turkey Melt (smoked turkey placed on toasted rye bread and topped with tomatoes and Swiss cheese).

In case you’re splurging on the American classic – burgers, of course – the Cotton Patch has several premium burgers. You can try the classic burger although the three-cheese bacon cheeseburger and the patty melt are the better choices – if your heart can take the high calorie and fat content.

And if your heart cannot do so, then there are the heart-healthy options. You can order the grilled tilapia, a single filet of tilapia served with steamed vegetables and seasoned rice, and the grilled Norwegian salmon, a delectable grilled fish with lovely lemon flavor.

What’s a Southern-style restaurant chain without chicken fried steaks, chicken fried chicken, and even chicken fried pork chop? Cotton Patch considers its restaurants as part of the chicken fried nation for this reason. Even when you’re watching your diet, you just cannot help but indulge in these dishes at least once a month, if not once a week – they’re just too good to pass up!

Each restaurant also offers a full bar with alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Southern food, after all, is also about the combo of delectable foods and refreshing drinks.
