In 2011, John Rosatti, David Manero, Lee Goldberg founded BurgerFi with its first location opened in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Florida. The name comes from “BurgerFication of the Nation” in reference to the prevalence of burgers and fries in the restaurant industry. Through the years, the founders added more restaurants such that there are now more than 100 locations in the United States as well as in Mexico, Panama, and Kuwait.

What They’re Famous For

BurgerFi, a fast casual restaurant chain, has established its reputation on better all-natural burgers as well as hot dogs, French fries, and custard shakes.

Why Eat Here

BurgerFi offers the convenience of a fast-food restaurant in terms of ordering at the counter, familiar food, and quick turnaround with the opportunity to eat better burgers. In case of the latter, the chain focuses on higher quality ingredients, cook-to-order food, and creative food choices that contribute to its brand differentiation from other burger-based restaurant chains like McDonald’s.

As soon as you enter its doors, you will know that BurgerFi is a better burger restaurant. The upscale interiors have the subtlety of a coffeehouse-slash-bar designed for young people so diners are subliminally encouraged to linger and relax for just a while longer than in a fast-food joint. But diners can also eat and run, if that’s up their alley.

The counter where diners make their orders is also quite different from a fast-food counter. Diners choose from the brightly-lit digital menus that feature a wide range of food and drinks including alcoholic beverages like draft beers, craft microbrews and wines. There are also computerized touch screen soda dispensers for Coca-Cola products including Coke, Sprite, and Fanta.

The tables and chairs aren’t plastic but mostly stainless steel (i.e., individual tables) and faux wood tables (i.e., larger 12-seater communal tables). The wooden walls have flat-screen televisions and the high ceilings feature designer light fixtures and ceiling fans. The orders are called in via a buzzer instead of a number, a cool touch away from the impersonal fast-food system.

Even the burgers have a cool little detail – their surfaces have the BurgerFi logo! Yes, these are small touches but these are the things that diners notice and find charming, perhaps even make them come back for more.

We all come to BurgerFi obviously for the food, particularly the burgers, and these always deliver on the taste, texture and size.  The burgers are among the better ones we’ve enjoyed among better-burger chains.

The beef patties are made from hormone-free, antibiotic-free Angus beef, which are then grilled to perfection to achieve the right level of juiciness, tenderness and flavor. You can actually eat the patty on its own and think of it as a sort of steak –it’s that good. But obviously these are better enjoyed with the buns and fillings.

The burger selection is familiar in the sense that these have similar names as those found in most burger-centric chains with the main difference being in the quality of ingredients.  The BurgerFi Cheeseburger has two Angus beef patties, two slices of American cheese, lettuce and tomato, and house sauce while the BurgerFi Burger has the same ingredients except for the American cheese; both are available with just one beef patty.  Other choices include the BurgerFi Bacon Cheeseburger, Conflicted Burger, CEO Burger, The CEO, VegeFi Burger, Beyond Burger, and Vegan Beyond Burger.

The hot dogs selection is limited to three – American Wagyu beef hot dog, New York-style hot dog, and Texas-style hot dog – but these are delectable and large. The sides are also limited to French fries and onion rings while the desserts are custard cups and shakes. The limited selections for these items don’t take away from the fact that BurgerFi offers among the best high-quality burgers so far.

The French fries are hand-cut so these come in different sizes, as well as well-browned for optimum crispiness and juiciness. We daresay that these are standout fries that can be enjoyed with and without toppings.

The concretes, which are thick frozen desserts, and frozen custard shakes are big in both size and flavor so these come highly recommended. The concretes are available in four specialty flavors, such as Red Velvet, which can be customized with mix-ins and toppings.

Tip: Order the OMC and you will get large chunks of chewy chocolate, peanut butter, chocolate sprinkles, and chocolate chips mixed with chocolate custard. This is a chocoholic’s dream!
