The pub is among the most enduring British institution. Indeed, it’s the quintessentially British community hangout where the old and the young, the singles and couples, and everybody of legal drinking age mingle. Without it, the world won’t have British culture as we know it today!

Of the dozens of pub brands in the United Kingdom, one name stands out – Brewers Fayre. The chain of pubs-and restaurants has a family-friendly atmosphere that continues to attract the crowd despite the apparent slump in the pub market.

History

Brewers Fayre started as The Farmer Arms, which opened in Preston in 1979. In the next 15 years, the single location grew into a chain of pubs with 280 locations. But it wasn’t all roses – the chain had its share of problems including the launch and cessation of several sister brands and the changes in ownership.

The Brewers Fayre chain as we know it today has about 130 fully-licensed pubs-and-restaurants in the United Kingdom. Whitbread is its current owner.

What They’re Known For

Brewers Fayre is known for its delicious and diverse offerings of traditional British pub food and drinks. The prices are generally reasonable and the atmosphere is family-friendly, a combination of factors that contributes to its enduring popularity in the pub industry.

Why Eat Here

One of the best things about the Brewers Fayre is its easy accessibility – the pubs are typically located in areas with high foot traffic or in well-populated areas, thus, these are places that you will want to visit regularly. Just walk in the door and enjoy the warm and welcoming vibe, no reservations needed and no fuss about where you want to sit.

Place your orders at the bar, drink a pint of beer while waiting for your order or proceed to your table, and wait for your food to be delivered by the servers. Request the servers for more food and drinks, ask for their assistance, and enjoy the friendly, efficient and courteous service, too.

Every Brewers Fayre pub-and-restaurant has an easygoing atmosphere that will immediately put you and your group at ease. The relaxed vibe comes from the mellow background music, cool temperature, and perfect lighting.

The overall feel of every Brewers Fayre pub is a traditional English pub obviously. The characteristic décor includes the use of warm contrasting colors, the combination of wooden paneling and stonework, and even stained glass. There are Victorian-style lampposts, too, especially in the pub’s parking areas while many historical locations are known for their unique names, usually a take on the building’s former use (e.g., Pirnhall Inn for the Brewers Fayre outside of Stirling); newer locations are simply known as Brewers Fayre.

Unlike the traditional British pub, however, Brewers Fayre has kid-friendly, fully-supervised, Dennis the Menace-themed play areas. Every play area typically has an amazing tree house and a toddlers’ zone, as well as staff members who supervise the daily activities from Monday to Friday. Rates and times apply.

Do you want to host a children’s birthday party in a pub? Come to Brewers Fayre and enjoy them at The Den, a large venue for birthday parties and other occasions. Think of the parties as the adults having fun in the pub while the children are also having fun in the same venue but in another room.

Of course, the food and drinks rank on top of the reasons for coming to your neighborhood Brewers Fayre on the regular basis!  Nearly everything in a traditional British pub menu is available here, from the starters to the desserts and drinks.

For starters, the bestselling items are the buttermilk chicken cheesy nachos (tortilla chips with cheese sauce, buttermilk chicken goujons, and chili salsa) and the Deep South-inspired buffalo goujons with hot sauce coating and blue cheese dip. The entrées include The Sloppy Joe Burger (60-ounce burger with cheddar cheese, spicy beef chili, and cheese sauce topping); The Brewers Cobb Salad (grilled chicken breast, bacon, and boiled egg with Stilton cheese and ranch dressing); and the Chicken ‘N’ Bacon Waffles (crisp waffles, buttermilk chicken goujons, and smoked bacon with maple syrup topping).

The sides can be meals, too, if you’re watching your waistline. The choices include smothered chicken and bacon bites and mac n’ cheese bites. The desserts are so scrumptious you may want to eat them first – Toffee Apple Waffles (sweet waffles with sticky salted toffee apples and cookie dough ice cream) and Oreo Sundae (cookie dough ice cream with crushed Oreo cookies, chocolate sauce, and whipped cream).

Browse the menu and find many more delicious dishes like tomato soup, onion tarts, prawn cocktails, tempura prawns, fishcakes, Brie bites, burrito bowl salad, sweet potato and feta lasagna, quiche, spicy Asian-style noodles, and chicken and chorizo pie.  There are also slow-cooked lamb shank, chicken garlic, beef and stout pie, and grilled gammon steak.

And don’t forget to order from the drinks menu! You’re in a British pub, after all, so the beers, ales and wines are overflowing.
