About Bob Evans

Bob Evans menu prices reflect that fact that its parent company, Bob Evans Farms Inc., is a food service and food processing company. Since the restaurants can directly source most of their raw ingredients instead of outsourcing it from other companies, the customers benefit in terms of more affordable prices coupled with consistent quality.

The national chain of restaurants has nearly 600 locations in the Mid-Atlantic, upper Southern, and Midwestern states (i.e., 19 states as of 2016); all of them are owned by the company instead of being franchisees. All of the restaurants also have a country living theme with an emphasis on a strong connection to farms.

History

In 1946, Bob Evans launched his single truck stop diner in Rio Grande, Ohio; the diner was located near his Bob Evans Farm. He processed and packaged the sausages for his own diner before making the decision to sub-contract the packaging operations to Evans Packing Co. He tried selling his sausage products, which by then were popular with the truck stop patrons for their delicious quality, but local restaurants refused to buy them because of their higher prices. He then opened his first full-fledged restaurant in 1962 and the rest is history.

What They’re Famous For

Aside from the comparatively affordable Bob Evans prices, the restaurants are famous for many things including:

  • Breakfast items are served all day long, which is a plus for many truck drivers and regular patrons. You will find that breakfast menu is also the more affordable options, not to mention that the sausages are among the best in the country (i.e., none of the chemical tastes, all of the meaty goodness).
  • Greeting cards, small gift items, and snacks including baked goods, as well as pork products are sold in many restaurants.
  • USDA-certified meats are used in the steaks, such as the 3-Course USDA Choice Sirloin package consisting of 6-ounce Choice sirloin, roasted portabella mushrooms, and Monterey Jack Cheese with salad or soup, side, bread, and dessert.

Why Eat Here

  • Casual ambiance with an elegant vibe (i.e., neither too flashy nor too simple) that allows couples, families, and groups to equally enjoy the place
  • Extensive food menu that includes appetizers, sides, and entrées for both meat lovers and vegetarians. Your food is served according to the desired temperature (i.e., hot for the soups, warm for the steaks, and cold for the desserts), presented in an appealing arrangement, and delivered promptly by the servers. You have a choice of meat dishes including beef, pork and chicken with the most popular being the 3-course USDA Choice Sirloin and 3-course Slow-roasted Pot Roast.
  • Fast service from the courteous servers
  • Accessible locations with sufficient parking spaces
