What They’re Famous For
Black Bear Diner restaurants are famous for several things. First, the signature bear sculptures are the main décor of each restaurant with the bears ranging in theme from grape-stomping bears to skiing bears depending on the location. You will want to take a photo with the bears, perhaps even order a made-to-order bear sculpture from Ray Schulz (i.e., ask the staff for more details). Second, the menu consists of traditional American fare evocative of home-style comfort food for breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as the snacks and desserts.
Why Eat Here
Your dining experience will obviously be different depending on the Black Bear Diner location. But you will find several common aspects that result in a consistently great dining experience in all of the chain’s restaurants. Your reasons for coming back include:
- Rustic motif with bears as the central theme. You will be awed at the 12-foot tall black bear present in all restaurants while the artworks and murals, which were created by Colleen Mitchell-Veyna and Steve and Gary Fitzgerald, will also catch your attention. You can even sing along to retro (1950s and 1960s) piped-in music, which lends a casual and relaxed vibe to the place, even during peak hours when family and friends gather for a small party.
- Unique menu with a format that mimics an old newspaper (i.e., The Black Bear Gazette). You will salivate at the extensive menu of American favorites including breakfast plates, burgers, pies, breads, salads, cobblers, and shakes. If you are lucky, you can find a Back Bear Diner that serves alcoholic drinks, which is perfect for winding down after a hard day at work. Your portions are generous, too, which means you can share with your fellow diners and save money on your orders.
Add the reasonable Black Bear Diner prices and you have more reasons to become a regular patron here.
