Of course, the Starbucks drinks aren’t as expensive as some people think but these aren’t exactly the cheapest in the block either. The quality of the drinks coupled with the customization options make every dollar and drip worth it, fortunately.

History

Zev Siegl, Jerry Baldwin, and Gordon Bowker originally wanted to sell coffee beans and coffee roasting equipment, an idea inspired by Alfred Peet, a coffee roasting entrepreneur who also taught them about his original roasting style. On March 31, 1971, the three founders opened the first Starbucks coffee shop in Seattle, Washington where it remains among the city’s most recognizable institutions.

But “Starbucks” wasn’t the founders’ original choice for the name of the coffee shop. Other names like Cargo House and Pequod were also considered and discarded because these were neither powerful nor catchy enough – the trio wanted a brand name starting with the “ST” sound as it sounded more powerful. Bowker suggested “Starbuck” since it started with “ST” and it was easy to recall; the name was actually a character in a Moby Dick novel.

Currently, Starbucks is a publicly-traded corporation (NASDAQ: SBUX) as well as listed on the S&P 500 Component, the S&P 100 Component, and the NASDAQ-100 Component. The chain also has more than 23,760 coffee shops across the United States as well as in countries as diverse as Canada, Mexico, Japan, and South Korea, to name a few. The baristas are usually patient in waiting for your specific order but you may also want to know your choice before lining up – the quicker you can give your order, the faster you can enjoy your drinks, not to mention that you won’t be holding up the line.

The drinks menu includes a diverse range of hot and cold drinks, most of which have coffee as their base. There are also espresso, micro-ground instant coffee, café latte, and frappuccinos, as well as fruit juices and tea-based drinks (i.e., loose leaf and in bags). The chain also launches seasonal drinks, such as spiced pumpkin drinks during Halloween.
