History

Pete Plamondon, Sr. strongly believed in the Roy Rogers brand that he became brand franchisee and opened his first Roy Rogers restaurant in 1968 in Falls Church, Virginia. He later purchased the entire chain and in 1998, sold the business to Pete Jr. and Jim, his sons. In the next two decades, the brothers opened several more Roy Rogers restaurants in the Mid-Atlantic region.

What They’re Known For

The chain of Roy Rogers restaurants uses only the best ingredients including 100% USDA top inside round roast beef, which results in juicy, tender and succulent meats. The fried chicken are also made from fresh, never frozen, chicken pieces that have been hand-battered in the chain’s proprietary mix. The pancakes are always made fresh daily and made from scratch so there’s always a fluffy, fresh taste to them.

The dessert items have also been given the special Roy Rogers treatment. The ice cream is made from fresh ingredients while the sundaes are topped with brownies and apple crisps.

Why Eat Here

When it comes to enjoying delicious meals and snacks with a delicious, homemade quality, the Roy Rogers restaurants come out on top.  Everything here tastes so delicious that you can’t help but indulge yourself!

The breakfast items are filling and satisfying, from the fluffy pancakes to the biscuits and gravy. The Creamed Chipped Beef and Biscuit looks as beautiful on the platter as it is flavorful in your mouth. There are also platters, such as the Western Platter and the Scrambled Egg Platter, for people with a big appetite, as well as breads like Cinnamon Roll, Egg and Cheese Crescent, Sausage Egg and Cheese Crescent, and Sourdough Ham Egg and Cheese.

The burgers are also a draw at Roy Rogers restaurants for good reasons. The buns are fluffy and firm, the patties are flavorful and juicy, and the toppings are fresh and delicious! The choices include the Double R Bar Burger, 1/4 lb. Cheeseburger, Bacon Cheeseburger, and the Double Cheeseburger.

Roy Rogers, furthermore, is known for its roast beef sandwich and sliders. The thinly-sliced roast beef is delicious in every bite, as well as juicy and succulent the juices almost ooze out. The Kaiser bun makes for a great bed for the roast beef while the horseradish sauce amps up the flavors; add a dash of salt and pepper and the sandwich may well be the best you have ever tasted.

The chicken sandwiches come in at a close second to the roast beef sandwiches, too. The Gold Rush Chicken Sandwich, Spicy Chicken Sandwich, and Grilled Chicken Sandwich are great alternatives when you’re looking for something lighter yet still filling and flavorful. Try the Fried Chicken Family Meal and Chicken Strips, too, if you have a hankering for hand-battered, deep-fried chicken prepared the Southern way.

The sides selection include fries, side salad, and baked potato and baked beans, which complete the meal without taking away the spotlight from the roast beef sandwich. There are also fruit cups, baked apples, mashed potatoes, coleslaw and mac ‘n cheese.

The salads are limited in terms of number of options but what it lacks in quantity, it makes up for in quantity. The Chef Salad, Garden Salad, and Chicken Caesar Salad are made with fresh vegetables, nuts and seeds, and herbs with great dressings.

The beverage menu is the standard one seen in most restaurants. These include fountain drinks, lemonades, iced tea, bottled water, apple juice, and orange juice, as well as coffee, tea and milk. The desserts include shakes, apple crisps, sundaes, and a strawberry shortcake.

The Fixin’s Bar features several toppings that can be added to your sandwiches to make them more your own. The toppings include tomatoes, fresh lettuce, onions, and peppers, as well as a range of dressings.  The barbecue sauce can be addictive and it’s best used with your roast sandwiches and fries.

Every Roy Rogers restaurant has clean amenities and facilities for adults and children alike, as well as for people with disabilities and with babies. While there are no televisions and Internet connections available, the restaurant has a lively vibe about it, thanks partly to the mix of students, young professionals, families with their children, and senior people in the crowd.  Besides, these modern conveniences can only take away your attention from your food and drinks – and these are the main reason you are at Roy Rogers!
