A lot of Round Table Pizza’s charm came from its long history. Founded in 1959 by William Larson. The first store he opened was located in Menlo Park, California.
The chain got its concept when in 1961, one of Larson’s friends drew the members of King Arthur’s court noshing on pizza. He was then inspired to take on the Arthurian concept as it’s also a rather different theme for a pizza place. The branding was developed over the years and helped keep the brand image fresh and evolving.
Interestingly, Round Table Pizza was able to try different marketing concepts over the years. From 2003 to 2005, they had two mascots, Matt and Marcus, star in their commercials. Sadly, they weren’t knights or any Arthurian character but they worked hard in promoting the finer options that the Round Table has to offer.
In 2007, they reverted back to the Arthurian theme and had Pizza Knight to become their mascot. He was described as a “defender of family night”, banking on the fact that pizza is the number one family night food.
Round Table Pizza also took on the tagline, “The Last Honest Pizza”, to describe their use of the freshest ingredients and high-quality offerings. As the chain has always been known to make their hand-rolled doughs in stores daily, as well as use homemade sauce and hand-cut toppings, they take great pride in continuing the tradition despite the growth that they have achieved over the years.
Today, Round Table Pizza has more than 440 stores in the US and other parts of the globe. It has recently faced some difficulties but they were able to bounce back after some restructuring and recalibrations.
To further push the new growth of the brand, they have recently enhanced and updated their brand identity. It’s a revamp of their old branding to stay true to their roots and honor their history while keeping up with modern times.
From being the “Last Honest Pizza”, they’re now proudly brandishing the “Pizza Royalty” that they are. With this new tagline, they are able to flaunt their products’ superiority and the rich history and concept of their brand.
What They’re Famous For
With its 60 years in the industry, it shouldn’t be surprising that the Round Table Pizza is known for a few things. For starters, its branding is quite recognizable even if it’s not necessarily a themed restaurant. The Arthurian references are there but they’re not too overwhelming that the place looks childish.
Then, there’s the pizza. Lots of guests rave about the main specialty of this chain which is certainly a good thing. The restaurant set out to offer pizzas and they successfully did so. Those who come here for the first time are not disappointed with what they got while those who have tried it before continue to come back.
What draws people to the Round Table is its high-quality pizza. As mentioned above, they use real and fresh ingredients, so diners will surely taste the difference between what this chain can offer and those who use frozen and preserved ingredients.
The pizza buffet also draws lots of people to the Round Table. With the quality of their pizza and the budget-friendly all-you-can-eat buffet, this deal certainly won over many hearts and tummies.
