About Papa John’s
Papa John’s is also a family-friendly pizzeria where children and adults can sit down and enjoy their pizzas, pastas, and chicken in a casual environment. Here, good times with family and friends are more important than almost anything else, if you allow it to be.
History
In 1983, John Schnatter sold his beloved 1971 Camaro Z28, purchased used pizza equipment from its proceeds, and opened his first Papa John’s stand – actually, it was a converted broom closet in his father’s tavern, Mick’s Lounge, in Jefferson, Indiana. His delicious pizzas soon became popular with the customers that he moved into a larger space – from the tavern’s broom closet to the larger space beside the tavern.
Over the years, Papa John’s grew by leaps and bounds so much so that it’s now considered as among the largest, if not the largest, pizza chain in the world. There are more than 4,700 locations worldwide – about 3,700 of them are in the United States and the rest are in more than 30 other countries and territories.
Papa John’s Pizza is also a publicly-traded corporation (NASDAQ: PZZA) and on the S&P 400 Component. Currently, John Schnatter heads the corporation as its chief executive officer.
Factoid: In celebration of its 4,000th restaurant, which opened on September 2012 in New Hyde Park in New York City, Papa John’s gave away 4,000 free pizzas!
What They’re Famous For
Papa John’s is obviously known for its pizzas, which are made with better ingredients (i.e., an integral aspect of its brand) and tastes better than any of its competitors’ pizzas. According to management, the term “better ingredients” also means fresh, organic and made from scratch, a claim that manifests itself in the high quality of the pizzas.
The chain is just as well-known for its innovative approach toward excellent customer service, an example of which was its pioneering introduction of an online ordering system launched in January 2002.
Why Eat Here
Pizzas can be eaten for breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as enjoyed as a snack – and there’s nothing more satisfying that eating Papa John’s pizzas every day! Of course, eating pizzas on a daily basis may not be a healthy thing to do so the trick here is in choosing healthier alternatives so indulging yourself in pizza madness isn’t as crazy as it sounds.
Papa John’s has several pizzas that will meet your brief for healthier ingredients. Order the Greek Pizza with more vegetables as toppings and less of the sodium and fat. Look at the Papa’s Lighter Choices and wonder why you didn’t see the healthier dishes in it before. Your choices include the Chicken & Veggie with its light mix of lean chicken and nutritious vegetables; the Grilled Chicken and Canadian Bacon that combines great flavors and low calories; and the Mediterranean Veggie that makes you want to eat more veggies.
And if you can’t make a decision, you can always have your favorite pizzas but at a smaller size. This way, you can have your pizzas but get less calories with every meal or snack.
Papa John’s range of pizzas includes the traditional and the non-traditional, too. The choices include original crust, thin crust, and pan crust pizzas, which will satisfy any pizza lover’s taste whether he’s from Chicago or New York. The pizzas are also available in two sizes – 8-inch and 16-inch – so you can either bring a small or a larger group to share your love for pizzas.
If you’re looking for traditional pizzas, your best bets are the cheese pizza, the sausage pizza, and the pepperoni pizza. But when you’re craving for something more adventurous, you should have the Garden Fresh Pizza, John’s Favorite Pizza, and The Works pizza. We particularly like The Works because it has everything that your pizza-loving self will want in a pizza.
We like it, too, that the dough for the crust has been tossed by hand and doesn’t contain dough conditioners. The sauce is made from freshly picked tomatoes and the cheeses are made with real part-skim mozzarella.
Aside from the pizzas, Papa John’s also offers several pasta dishes, sides and desserts as well as standard drinks. There’s something good to be said about pairing pizzas with a sweet treat afterwards.
The customer service at Papa John’s is usually excellent, particularly in terms of the quick delivery of hot pizzas from the kitchen to your table. There’s a wait of a few minutes for your order but the wait is well worth it once you get your first bite.
