About Checkers/Rally’s
The convenience of drive-in restaurants cannot be overemphasized, and we love them, too! We love the Checkers and Rally’s restaurants for this reason – these restaurants make it so easy to enjoy a filling and flavorful meal without getting out of your car. Checkers/Rally’s prices are considered to be very competitive with the lower end of fast food industry price sector.
You just drive to your local Checkers or Rally’s restaurant, park your car in the designated area, and wait for the staff to approach your vehicle. You can then say your orders, pay for them, and wait for the food to be delivered to your car – and, again, there’s no need to get out of your car! No wonder that the Checkers and Rally’s restaurants are among the largest chains of drive-in and drive-thru restaurants in the United States.
History
Checkers and Rally’s were originally distinct companies with each one serving different areas – Checkers on the Southeast and Rally’s on the Midwest. In August 1999, the two companies merged to form Checkers Drive-in Restaurants, Inc. with its corporate headquarters in Tampa, Florida.
In general, the company has continued using the specific name in its restaurants. In the Southeast and Northeast regions, the Checkers name remains. In the Midwest region and California, the Rally’s name continues to be used. Many areas, furthermore, use both brands (i.e., overlap).
Checkers was founded by Jim Mattei in 1986 in Mobile, Alabama while Rally’s was founded by Jim Patterson in 1985 in Louisville, Kentucky.
The chain has more than 800 locations in 28 states in the United States and in the District of Columbia. Per records, the current owner is Oak Hill Capital Partners, a private investment firm.
What They’re Famous For
Both Checkers and Rally’s restaurants specialize in hamburgers, hot dogs, and fries as well as in milkshakes. Keep in mind that both adopt the fast-food business model and, thus, the food and drinks aren’t the gourmet kinds. But while the food and drinks aren’t up to gourmet standards, these are flavorful and satisfying, as well as give great value for your money, especially if you’re a budget-conscious person.
Why Eat Here
Did you know that Checkers and Rally’s have more than a dozen different burgers and hot dogs? Yes, there are so many choices that boredom shouldn’t be an issue whenever you’re at one of its restaurants! You may even want to try a new burger or hotdog in combination with your favorite sides and drinks.
The burger lineup ranges from the simple CheckerBurger or RallyBurger to the gigantic Cheese Champ and Big Buford. The CheckerBurger and RallyBurger consists of a single patty with the usual fixings like tomato, lettuce, pickles, onions, and tomato with mayo on top. Don’t dismiss as being too plain because it’s a satisfying burger despite its simplicity.
The Baconzilla is a bacon lover’s favorite with its two juicy patties, three slices of tangy cheese, and with bacon strips on top of the patties. The contrast between the meatiness of the beef patties with the tanginess of the cheese and the crispiness of the bacon makes it a favorite for us, too.
The Bacon Roadhouse also has two beef patties, two slices of cheese and bacon but there are also onion tanglers in it. Instead of ketchup and mayo, its topping is savory barbecue sauce so there’s a certain sense of being in a summer barbecue with every bite.
The burger menu also includes the likes of cheeseburger, Big Buford (two patties and two cheese slices with all the fixings), Bacon Cheese Champ and Bacon Cheddar Crisp, BLT (three bacon strips with all the fixings), and All American Cheeseburger (a single patty with a slice of cheese topped with pickles, mustard, and ketchup).
The hot dogs are just as delicious as the burgers although the choices are limited. These include the Grilled Hot Dog (all-beef hotdog served on a toasted bun); Chili Dog (all-beef hotdog with meaty chili and red onions); and Chili Cheese Dog (all-beef hot dog with zesty chili and tangy cheese).
The chain also offers chicken wings and boneless wings with several flavors to choose from. When eaten hot, these wings have a juicy, succulent and flavorful quality to them. The sauces are the icing on the cake, and the choices include lemon pepper, Memphis BBQ, sweet and smoky BBQ, medium and angry buffalo, Asian kick, and garlic parmesan.
The sides are fun and fab, too, especially if you love French fries. The seasoned fries have a substantial quality – thick-cut fries – complemented by their just-right saltiness. These can be ordered in several sizes and with or without toppings; if you want toppings, you can choose from cheese, crispy bacon and ranch; chili and cheese; and garlic and parmesan.
Indeed, Checkers and Rally’s have nearly perfected the art of satisfying its customers’ cravings for burgers, hot dogs, and fries!
The fact that their staff are fast on their feet, literally, as well as courteous and competent is icing on the cake. Come and visit your nearest Checkers and Rally’s restaurant and enjoy a satisfying meal for a reasonable price.
